DJI Goggles 3 vs Goggles N3: specs, compatibility and which to buy

ResearchedPublished Sources checked By The Stickbench team

Quick answer

DJI Goggles 3 vs N3 comes down to what you fly. Goggles 3: micro-OLED screens up to 100 Hz, diopters, Real View and O3 Air Unit support. N3: cheaper, one wider 54° screen, works over glasses, O4-era gear only. Both work with all four current DJI FPV drones.

Fits you, or skip it?

From DJI's pages, not our flights

Goggles 3 fits you if

  • You fly (or plan) a quad on the DJI O3 Air Unit
  • You want the lowest DJI-quoted latency (24 ms vs 31 ms with Avata 2)
  • You want Real View, or 100fps live view on the Neo 2
  • Your prescription fits −6.0 D to +2.0 D and you'd rather skip glasses
  • You also fly a DJI Air 3 or Mini 4 Pro

Skip it if

  • You fly only O4-era gear and want the cheaper headset
  • You wear glasses and want to keep them on
  • You're in the US: DJI's US store showed it as "Not available in your country/region" on October 14, 2026

Goggles N3 fits you if

  • You fly only O4-era gear
  • You wear glasses and want to keep them on
  • You want the cheaper headset ($229 on DJI's US store, October 14, 2026)

Skip it if

  • You fly an O3 Air Unit quad: DJI's N3 lists stop at O4
  • You want Real View, or 100fps live view on the Neo 2 (N3 gets 1080p/60fps)
  • You also fly a DJI Air 3 or Mini 4 Pro: DJI doesn't list them for N3

Neither? If you fly analog, HDZero or Walksnail, DJI lists neither headset for those systems, and says third-party goggles aren't supported with O4. Every comparison.

Unless marked otherwise, figures are from the Goggles 3 specs and Goggles N3 specs. Latencies are DJI's figures measured outdoors without interference.

Battery figures you'll see elsewhere (180 min, 162 min, 2.7 h) are these same two DJI numbers. Both were measured with an Avata 2 at 1080p/100fps, but at different screen brightness (4 on Goggles 3, 6 on N3), so the gap isn't like-for-like. Both FAQs say the goggles can run from a USB-C power bank, even while in use.

About "4K/60fps": both spec pages list it as "Max Video Specification" beside the playback formats. DJI gives in-goggle recording as 1920×1080, so read 4K as a playback figure.

Compatibility: which drones and air units work with each

Retailer lists disagree, so every cell below comes from a DJI page. "Not listed by DJI" means no DJI page we checked names that pairing; it doesn't mean the pairing is confirmed to fail.

¹ DJI's update notice that "added support for use with DJI Goggles N3" lists Goggles N3 V01.00.0200, Avata 2 V01.00.0400, Neo V01.00.0400 and DJI Fly V1.15.4. Update to current firmware before pairing. ² Neo 2 FAQ: "When flying the drone with a remote controller or goggles, always install the DJI Neo 2 Digital Transceiver." It's optional hardware; Wi-Fi transmission is standard.

DJI drones

DJI lists all four current FPV-style drones (Avata 2, Avata 360, Neo, Neo 2) for both headsets. The differences:

  • Avata 2: 24 ms lowest latency with Goggles 3, 31 ms with N3, both at 1080p/100fps (Avata 2 specs). Combo contents are in the FAQ below.
  • Avata 360: in Single Lens Mode, 1080p/100fps live view is "supported only when the aircraft is used with Goggles 3/N3 and RC Motion 3" (Avata 360 specs). Both qualify.
  • Neo 2: the clearest difference: up to 1080p/100fps live view with Goggles 3, 1080p/60fps with N3.
  • Neo (1st gen): 58 ms minimum latency with N3 at 1080p/60fps; DJI gives no Goggles 3 latency figure for it.

Air units for custom builds (O3, O4, O4 Pro)

  • O3 Air Unit: Goggles 3 only; the N3 FAQ names the "O4 Air Unit Series" and nothing older. If your quads run O3, this decides it.
  • O4 vs O4 Pro: DJI says the O4 Air Unit is "perfectly compatible with 2-inch and smaller frames" and the O4 Pro is "compatible with frames of 3 inches and above, including professional FPV such as the X8" (O4 FAQ). Some retailers list this wrongly; go by DJI.
  • Remote: on O4 units DJI pairs both headsets with the FPV Remote Controller 3, not RC Motion 3.
  • Flight controller: Betaflight 4.3.0 / INAV 8.0.1 or later. With a DJI FPV remote, set the receiver protocol to SBUS; third-party radios need an additional receiver.
  • Non-DJI systems: DJI says "third-party flight goggles are not supported" with O4. Walksnail, HDZero or analog pilots should look elsewhere (comparisons hub).

DJI US store, October 14, 2026: RC Motion 3 $99, FPV Remote Controller 3 $199. The FPV RC 3 page also lists the O3 Air Unit; pair that setup with Goggles 3, the only headset listing O3.

What doesn't work

  • N3 + O3 Air Unit: not listed; DJI's N3 lists stop at O4.
  • Either headset + RC Motion 2 / FPV RC 2: N3 "must be used" with the "3" remotes, and on the Avata 2 DJI ties the "2" remotes to Goggles 2 and Integra (Avata 2 FAQ).
  • Either headset + Walksnail, HDZero or analog: not listed by DJI.

Where DJI's own pages disagree

  1. Avata 2 FAQ. One answer says that with Goggles 3 or N3, "only DJI RC Motion 3 and DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 are supported". Another says that with those remotes "only DJI Goggles 3 is supported". The N3 FAQ, N3 store list and DJI's firmware notice all list Avata 2, so we treat Avata 2 + N3 as supported.
  2. RC Motion 3 store page says it "requires pairing with DJI Goggles 3", without N3. The N3 FAQ and the Avata 360 and Neo 2 pages pair it with N3; we follow those.
  3. Goggles 3 lists omit the Neo 2 and Avata 360 (the support page names only Avata 2, Air 3 and Mini 4 Pro). Both drones' FAQs list Goggles 3; we follow those.
  4. N3 spec page names only Avata 2 and Neo; the N3 store list adds Avata 360, Neo 2 and the O4 air units.

Image and comfort differences

  • Panels: Goggles 3 has two micro-OLED screens, one per eye, with "10-bit enhanced display" (DJI launch release). N3 has one 3.5-inch 1080p screen.
  • Field of view: N3 is wider (54° vs 44°); DJI says its single ultra-wide screen reduces "the likelihood of dizziness" (N3 FAQ). The same 1080p over a wider angle means fewer pixels per degree; DJI publishes no pixel density for either.
  • Glasses: "You can use DJI Goggles N3 directly while wearing personal glasses or contact lenses"; DJI suggests gently opening the foam padding from both sides first. Goggles 3 uses diopters; for astigmatism or prescriptions outside its range, DJI suggests the included lens frames or optician lenses (Goggles 3 FAQ).
  • Weight: DJI doesn't say whether Goggles 3's 470 g includes the headband, so a strap-for-strap comparison isn't possible.
  • Care: DJI warns to keep Goggles 3 lenses out of direct sunlight "to avoid irreversible damage".

Which should you buy?

First DJI FPV kit (Avata 2, Avata 360, Neo or Neo 2). Both work. N3 is cheaper and easier with glasses; Goggles 3 adds lower latency, Real View, 100fps Neo 2 live view and a path to O3 builds.

You already own an O3 quad. Goggles 3. DJI lists N3 for O4-series air units only.

3-inch-plus quads on O4 Pro. Both work with FPV Remote Controller 3; Goggles 3 has the lower latency figure (15 ms vs 19 ms, racing mode).

You wear glasses. N3 to keep them on; Goggles 3 if your prescription fits the diopter range.

Budget first. N3 ($229 on DJI's US store, October 14, 2026) plus RC Motion 3 ($99) or FPV Remote Controller 3 ($199), same store and date. Prices move around sales; our DJI Black Friday tracker has dated prices by region.

You also fly an Air 3 or Mini 4 Pro. Goggles 3; only its FAQ lists them.

Flying the Avata 360. Either, with RC Motion 3 or FPV RC 3.

US buyers: on October 14, 2026, DJI's US store page for Goggles 3 showed no price and read "Not available in your country/region" (store page). US availability has been changing; check DJI's US store before you buy.

The FCC Covered List (dated October 9, 2026; checked October 13, 2026) lists "Uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) and UAS critical components produced in a foreign country" (added December 22, 2025, with exceptions) and names no brand, DJI included. What this means for buying or using a specific product isn't something we can tell you — check fcc.gov and the retailer before you buy.

Firmware: update before you pair

DJI adds pairings through firmware (N3 support for Avata 2 and Neo arrived in an update), so out-of-date firmware is a likely reason a listed pairing won't connect.

  1. Read DJI's release notes for your firmware first and follow them (current files dated September 1, 2026: Goggles 3 downloads, Goggles N3 downloads).
  2. Charge everything: goggles, drone or air unit, and remote.
  3. Update every device in the set, not only the goggles, with the DJI Fly app (V1.21.12) or DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) V2.1.42 on a computer.
  4. Don't power off or unplug anything mid-update. An interrupted firmware update can leave a device unusable.
  5. Restart all devices, then pair.
  6. Custom O4 builds: back up your Betaflight diff all before touching the flight controller, and only flash firmware built for your board's target.

Both headsets have built-in batteries. Charge them from a proper USB-C source, and stop using goggles that are swollen, damaged or overheating.

FAQ

Does Goggles N3 work with the O3 Air Unit?

DJI doesn't list it. The N3 FAQ names only the O4 Air Unit Series, and the N3 store page lists O4, O4 Pro and O4 Wide, not O3.

Does Goggles N3 work with the Avata 360 and Neo 2?

Yes, per both drones' FAQs. The Neo 2 needs its Digital Transceiver installed for goggle flying.

Can I wear glasses with Goggles 3?

DJI doesn't describe it. Goggles 3 offers diopters (−6.0 D to +2.0 D), included −2.0 D lenses with frames, and optician lenses for astigmatism. N3 is the headset DJI says works over glasses.

Which goggles come with the Avata 2 combo?

DJI's April 2024 launch release lists Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3 in the Fly More Combo ($999 with one battery, $1,199 with three). Retailers also sell a "Fly Smart Combo" with N3; we found no DJI page listing its contents, so check the box list.

Does Goggles 3 work with RC Motion 2?

Not on the Avata 2, where DJI allows only the "3" remotes with these goggles, and no DJI page we checked lists it elsewhere.

Is Goggles 3 worth the extra money?

DJI's US store showed no Goggles 3 price on our check date, so we can't state a US price gap. It adds O3 support, lower latency, 100 Hz screens, Real View, diopters and 100fps Neo 2 live view. If none matter, N3 covers every current O4-era DJI FPV drone.

Do I need to update firmware first?

Yes. Several pairings were added by firmware; update goggles, drone or air unit, and remote, then restart them all.
